Ebbs, Flows, Highs, Lows (Recap of 2018)

Updated: Aug 29, 2019

As the year comes to an end, the internet remains undefeated bringing us a number of funny memes that represent what the year was like. This meme is an accurate depiction of my year and I would love to say "2019 sit yo a** down and don't touch nothing." I contemplated whether I should share this portion of my year because when it comes to my personal life, I am extremely private. I received confirmation that it was okay after reading a tweet by Joe Budden, so here we go! I started the year off unemployed. On top of leaving my full time job as a teacher, I decided to stop working for a bridal makeup company to start my own business. During this time I had an unpaid internship and had to pay for parking every time I clocked in.

Although I experienced these lows, 2018 brought me the perfect combination of rain and sunshine needed for my growth. I'm sure 2019 will do the same! I didn't walk into 2018 with a solid plan for my business, which I regret. I was winging it majority of the year, but I was blessed to be in a position to learn from some amazing people in my industry. I was blessed to find full-time employment in my field and was promoted within 8 months. Instead of focusing on the not so good moments, I want to share some of my highlights of 2018.

January 2018: My work was published on the cover of Nura Magazine with June's Diary. (@nuramagazine)

March 2018: Publication in Salyse Magazine (Photographer: Dia Caster @photoartstudi0)

April 2018: Photo shoot with Fly Level Shop (@flylevelshop)

May 2018: 2 Day Creative Makeup Course w/ Tiffany Lumpkin (@TiffanyLumpkin)

September 2018: I was afforded the opportunity to do makeup for Ashley Darby (from the Real Housewives of Potomac) - (@ashleyboalchdarby)

As we enter the new year remember, "A little rain, helps us appreciate the sunshine." Do not be discouraged by life's obstacles; if you keep going, a year from now your life can be completely different. Learn from your mistakes and grow from every experience. Wishing you all much success in 2019!

Xoxo,

Khilia Chantal
